Levi-Strauss is certainly considered a titan by some, and perhaps he was at one time, but his work is to be read by those in his field, or perhaps by those that are so rigid in their thinking on what mythology is that they need a formal, academic introduction to it. If that is the case, then read Levi-Strauss. While I am happy to have read the work, I would certainly not be at a disadvantage had I not done so.
