Ego and Archetype
By Edward F. Edinger
Ego and Archetype by Edward F. Edinger is another one of the most important books of my intellectual and spiritual life. It is crucial to further understanding archetypes and mythology in relation to the human psyche and the quest for wholeness (aka, Individuation). As he writes in the book, “…the individual psyche is not just a product of personal experience. It also has a pre-personal or transpersonal dimension which is manifested in universal patterns and images such as are found in all the world’s religions and mythologies.” Edinger explains and explores the human psyche, particularly our developmental process, ultimately through psychology but also via archetypes, mythology, and the fascinating addition of Christianity. It is a must-read work.
